When summarizing a story:

  • Be sure to begin with the name and author of the story.
  • Be sure to identify the main idea of the story.
  • Be sure to retell in your own words how the plot unfolded,  and include information on the main characters, conflict, setting, etc.
  • Be sure to identify the theme of the story.
